Offbeat adventures on the Umngot River
The Umngot River, with it’s crystal clear water during the winter months, has been a huge crowd-puller when it comes to travellers who come to explore the magical natural beauty of Meghalaya. On this exciting short escape, we take you off the beaten trail to a spot further up the same river, where you will find peace and serenity amidst the curiously shaped rocks that you will find jutting out of the dreamy waters.
This is an experience best started very early in the morning, especially if you are staying in Shillong the night before. Our team will meet you in Shnongpdeng, from where we will first embark on a 30 minute ride on a local country boat, going upstream. Absorb the beauty of the landscape around you as the sound of our boat’s oars hitting the water below fills the fresh air around you. After the boating, we take you on a 45 minute hike along the riverbed. Gear up for an adventurous and challenging journey ahead as we jump over boulders and rocks along the way.
At the end of the hike, we reach ……… Popularly known as Amkoi owing to it’s proximity to the village called Amkoi, this secluded spot offers a unique vantage point with its curious rock formations- ideal for cliff jumping into the turquoise depths below. Spend your time here marvelling at the landscape around you and swimming around. Don’t forget! We have picnic lunch too.
