Chasing Waterfalls in the Monsoon

Thangsning, Pdem & BlewBlew

When the monsoon arrives in Meghalaya, the landscape transforms — veils of mist sweep across the hills, trails glisten with fresh rain, and waterfalls awaken with a thunderous energy. This short escape takes you deep into the East Khasi Hills for a day of exploring three remarkable cascades — Thangsning, Pdem, and BlewBlew Falls — each offering its own slice of monsoon magic.

Begin in the quiet village of Thangsning, where a short walk leads to a serene waterfall nestled in the forest — a perfect prelude to the journey ahead. From there, continue to Mawkynrew, a charming highland market where you’ll pick up a packed local lunch before heading deeper into the hills. The trail to Pdem Falls winds through sweeping grasslands and along riverside paths, revealing a waterfall that is nothing short of dramatic during the rains — powerful, remote, and framed by cliffs and clouds.

Just a short walk away, BlewBlew Falls offers a more intimate experience: a swimmable pool, soft cascades, and a sense of total seclusion. With no crowds, no signs, and no rush, this is a journey into landscapes that feel both wild and welcoming.

Whether you’re walking through soft rain, soaking in the sound of water against rock, or sharing a quiet meal beside a roaring cascade, this escape is all about slowing down and letting the monsoon lead the way. It’s a rare chance to witness Meghalaya at its most alive — raw, rain-fed, and endlessly beautiful.
